Remember that? It was like predestination in LCD form. It’s like a return to the simple, pastoral times of my golden youth, when video games went bloop when you died and ba-ding when you won, and if you pushed your thumbs to the screen or twiddled the batteries in the case you could simultaneously see every different permutation of the character’s movements in a flash. I love the arrow-keys-and-space-bar simplicity of this. If I could get it on my phone, I would be a happy and completely unproductive man. This will do to waste my time with for now, but I will probably go looking for more later. I don’t doubt there are also expanded and improved versions on the Internet somewhere. As it happens, I was right – and it seems to be the actual Disney folks who put together the movie. The game, of course, didn’t really exist before this but it was not-very-loosely based on the old Donkey Kong games, and as I watched the DVD I thought to myself, I bet somebody on the Internet has done this game. Yes, Fix-It Felix Jr., the ’80s-arcade-style game upon which the premise of Wreck-It Ralph, one of my favourite movies, is based. I mean, when I saw they’d made a Prince of Persia game based on the Prince of Persia movie that in turn was based on the Prince of Persia game, that was a bit too incraption for me, but this is just right. So, this officially makes my Coolest Things I Saw This Weekend list.
